PLUS Loan Application Instructions
Although the PLUS loan is often offered as part of a financial aid package, it is not necessary to apply for financial aid to receive the loan.
- Select a lender
You have a choice in selecting a lender for the PLUS Loan. It is important to note that the lender is the institution from which the money is borrowed, but the interest rates and terms of the loan are set by the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore the real difference among lenders is measured in terms of customer service, savings programs and repayment options.
Your family may already have a relationship with a lender and would prefer to borrow with that lending institution. Others prefer to research on their own for the best service and repayment benefits offered. The Office of Financial Aid will certify a PLUS Loan with any lender you select. We do offer a preferred lender list for those who would like assistance making a choice. - Submit an application
Apply by submitting a PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note with the lender. Most lenders provide an instant credit decision if you apply online. - Wait for your loan application to be approved
Anticipated PLUS loan credits are applied to your student's University invoice only after your completed loan application has been approved by your lender and certified by the Financial Aid Office.
