NU Loan Application Instructions

The NU Loan Application needs to be completed every year. The NU Loan is offered as part of a financial aid package. Funding for the program is limited. Since funds are limited for the NU Loan Program, the offer of an NU Loan for 2009-10 was only made to borrowers who received an NU Loan during previous academic years. Applicants must be offered the NU Loan in his or her financial aid award before completing a loan application.

  1. The student initiates the application process in OWLS (Online Web Loan System).
To access OWLS, students must first complete the student section of the NU Loan Application in CAESAR. Go to For Students > Financial Services > NU Loan Application > OWLS.
  2. His or her parent will be given access to OWLS.
The parent borrower will then receive a login ID and password. This will allow him or her to access the parent portions of the NU Loan Application.
  3. The parent completes and submits the application.
Once the application is complete, a conditional decision of approval will be available within 24 hours.
  4. Wait for final approval of the loan application.
An NU Loan is not guaranteed approval. The Office of Student Loans administers this institutional loan program and provides final approval once a formal application has been completed.
  5. Sign and return promissory notes.
The promissory note is sent to the parent for signature; the student's signature is also required.
