Students must complete an NU Loan Application in order to be considered for the NU Loan Program. A new application must be completed each year. NU Loan is the new name for the UPSL (University Parent/Student Loan).

It is not necessary to apply for financial aid in order to be considered for the NU Loan Program, though many students who do apply for financial aid are offered an NU Loan as part of their aid package. Unlike the Federal Stafford and Perkins Loans, an NU Loan offer from the Office of Financial Aid is not guaranteed approval. The Office of Student Loans administers this institutional loan program and provides final approval once a formal application has been completed. Families who are only interested in borrowing from the NU Loan Program can choose to complete the NU Loan application directly with the Office of Student Loans.
